[EC Independent Project Opportunity] CDX (DEALERMATCH) – new and overseas market opportunities

Project Description

At DealerMatch, we are a disruptive innovation start-up coming up on 2 years old and we have hit our growth stride in our first industry sector with 10-20% monthly growth in customers. We have 1 patent pending and 3 more in the works. We’re a data-driven B2B social site going after the automotive sector first. The shortest description is Facebook/Linkedin for car dealers running on a primarily subscription-based revenue model.

However, our innovations can be applied in other industries outside of automotive; so I’m beginning to think about our expansion outside of automotive to leverage our IP.   We are also planning to go nationwide early next year; so I’m beginning to think about our international expansion because our investors want to know about the landscape ahead of time.

As part of that process, I’m looking for a student team to tackle one of our 2 really cool research projects. I did a field study when I was at HBS and loved it so I know what a good experience looks like.

Project 1: Size the market opportunity & make a recommendation on a path forward for DealerMatch in the non-automotive industries where our patent is applicable. We’ve done some initial high-level analysis and narrowed down to 5-7 industries including gemstones, used heavy equipment, etc. We’re open to Fall or Winter term

Project 2: Size the market opportunity & make a recommendation on a path forward in the automotive market in overseas markets: Brazil, Australia, etc.

Company Profile

We’re an Atlanta technology startup. Our business is helping marketplace participants identify, communicate and transact with trading partners. We’re leveraging capabilities and assets from the wholesale and retail automotive segments to help members trade more efficiently and effectively than. We’re disrupting the wholesale used automotive industry first. 10 million cars move annually in the US between dealers without an auction and that’s our focus. Lead investor is Cox Enterprises–majority owner of the AutoTrader Group (AutoTrader, Kelly Blue Book, etc.) and Manheim  – the world’s leading wholesale automotive remarketing company. The founding team is made up of experienced entrepreneurs.
