Summer Internship: Sales & Marketing (Resale/Retail)

You’re learning a ton at business school, but you’ve got ideas of your own and you want to see them actually happen. We want to give you that opportunity. For 10 weeks, you’ll be in charge. Spend the first 2 weeks learning our business and working with the Founder and Entrepreneur Magazine’s Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year to rebuild our reseller program from the ground up. The Role
GroupMe is looking for one to two first year MBA candidates to join our business development team for the summer of 2012 (June-August). The candidate will work with the co-founder and two-person BD team.

The primary focus of this role will be delivering strategic recommendations to drive user growth and engagement. Candidate must possess extremely sharp critical thinking skills and creative initiative. Responsibilities will include market research, financial modeling, sourcing brand partnerships, identifying new verticals & use cases, creating new marketing collateral and drafting case studies. Comfort analyzing and presenting data are critical.

The right candidate will have both a “get it done” mentality as well as a demonstrated history of successful strategic thinking.

Desired Skills & Experience

Analytical background with experience in market research, financial modeling & creating presentations
Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills required
Previous work within technology preferred, particularly in social / mobile

Duncan has 16 years of experience leading and financing technology startups.   Before cofounding VeloBit, Duncan served as CEO & Cofounder of Cilk Arts, a multicore solution vendor that was acquired by Intel.   Prior to Cilk Arts, Duncan spent 10 years in the venture capital industry as a General Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners and Flagship Ventures.  Duncan was an early investor and board member in 17 early-stage companies that produced 10 acquisitions and an aggregate market capitalization in excess of $1.5 billion.  His investments included BuyerZone (acquired by Reed), DataCore Software, Datasage (Vignette), E-Dialog (GSI Commerce), Streambase, Vertica (HP), and Yantra (Sterling Commerce).  Duncan currently serves on the board of mobile applications vendor Localytics.  Before joining the venture capital industry, Duncan was at Haemonetics where he served as Assistant to the CEO, ran marketing for their largest division, and started a new service business.   He spent his early career at Draper Laboratory as Senior Member of Technical Staff and Program Manager.   Duncan holds a BS and MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.
